This is the last update on the Dome play structure that my daughter was trying to save. Unfortunately since it would cost roughly $30,000 to get it up to code it can't be saved.

But hey! It's awesome that she tried, and you can't beat the memories.

The story is here, at least for the week. I snatched The front page & page 5 for when they update the site next week.

Thanks [info]bluejupiter! Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Seriously, you rock, beyond description.

Despite the rocky time she endured at her other school for standing up for herself, and the issues of being ostrasized and harassed by certain people in and around where we live, my 14 year old daughter has managed to surprise me yet again.

This time she's a neigbourhood hero. Well, maybe not a hero per say, but she's impressed the heck out of a lot of people around here by starting a petition to save the dome play structure in the park on our street. One that apparently a lot of our neigbours love and aren't ready to say goodbye to. Truth be told, I don't really have much investment in it personally, except to be supportive for her sake. Now we have people coming by the house looking for the girl who started the petition. Who'd a thought? Actually she's very convincing, according to her it's the last structure of it's kind in the city. It's a big park, and they've already taken down the old equipment so they can build a new structure, as far as she's been told the dome wouldn't be in the way of that. I don't think the structure itself has safety issues, but they're concerned about the design even though no one has really been hurt on it according to people who have lived around here for a long time.

It was just kind of neat to have someone come to the house looking for her, to sign her petition and congratulate her initiative. *proud mama moment*

She's just not meant to fade into the background in this life.

Now she's got to figure out what to do with it. She says she needs to take it to city hall, I wonder if they're still open after school hours?
